Review: Killers in mascara

Killers in mascara by Huw Collingbourne

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m in the middle of this unusually entertaining crime novel and really enjoying myself. Collingbourne has created a great off-beat detective, with a waspish, camp sensibility and a lovely Wodehousian style. All this within a gripping detective story.

When a drag queen dies mysteriously on New Years’ Eve 1980, strangled in the club that she co-manages, there is no shortage of suspects who disliked her, but it seems only a drily cynical journalist who shares the mad, glam-rock scene himself has a chance of solving the crime.

That’s the story so far. I’ll tell you when I’ve finished. Great fun.
